Meeting bright and early at Yamaha of Harrison we gathered for our ride. Always welcome, former chapter members Gary and Teresa Bollwine from Waldron, Arkansas with friend Noel Vincent also from Waldron joined us. We also had Frank and Kimberly Maggard from Denard, Arkansas along for the day. Being a "mystery ride" only Landus, our Road Captain and Hal, our Tail Gunner knew where we were headed.
Heading out of town we made our way to Highway 43 South towards Ponca. Just south of Ponca we spotted elk grazing and pulled over at the side of the road in case anyone wanted to run back down the road for a picture. After leaving the pull-off, Gary and Teresa left us and headed home to Waldron. The rest of us rode over the mountain on Highway 21 towards Kingston.
With several of us needing a little reststop we turned right at the Kingston square and stopped at the new Kingston Station. The back of the pack didn't see that we turned right and went left. OOPS... We tried calling them but didn't get through. We figured that we'd catch up to them eventually. After leaving Kingston we headed east on Highway 74 and turned onto Highway 23 towards Eureka Springs.
And we DID catch up to them at Chana's Corner, a station located at the junction of Highway's 23 and 12. We were driving past and there they were waiting patiently for us.
The plan was to stop in Eureka Springs for lunch which is a good thing as everyone was getting hungry. It was 11:30 when we pulled into Shawbee's Big Dawg Saloon. We were surprised as we got up to the door saw the sign that said they didn't open until 12:00.
Not wanting to wait 30 minutes we moved down the road a few blocks to Sparky's Roadhouse Cafe where you'll find HUGE 'burgers and many other delicious choices to pick from.
With everyone full and needing a nap we headed off on highway 62 East turning right onto Rockhouse Road. A really nice back country road. This intersected with Highway 221 another great stretch of road with good sweepers and great views . We wound our way around and ended up in Berryville.
From Berryville we took County Road 32 (Jailhouse Road), to Highway 103 north of Green Forest. Turning north to Blue Eye on the Arkansas/Missouri border we then took Highway 311 south to Denver Road and landed in Burlington at the Junction of Highway 65 just beside the Burlington Store Stained Glass. You can find finished items to purchase or supplies to create your own stained glass. They even offer classes to learn how.
Not being far from Harrison and our last stop back at Yamaha of Harrison we hung out beside the road for awhile until we started feeling a few sprinkles. We checked the radar on a cell phone and decided that we had better get moving since there was a LOT of rain headed our way.
We arrived at the Yamaha shop (just as the rain was moving in) where were going to have our August meeting. Adam and Eli, owners of Yamaha of Harrison welcomed everyone inside and out of the rain. They very graciously served pizza and drinks to everyone as our meeting started.
After the meeting everyone headed out into a very rainy evening. Our Mystery ride took us on many roads that most of us had never ridden of for a BEAUTIFUL country ride.
