Caveman Bar-BQ & Steakhouse
On August 21, 2005 a few of us met at the Tourist Information Center in
Harrison,
Arkansas. Once we all arrived we mounted our iron steeds and headed north to
Missouri for lunch at Caveman Bar-BQ & Steakhouse which is located on the
side of a bluff 100 feet above the Gasconade River near Richland, Missouri.
Shortly after crossing the Missouri State line we found ourselves dodging rain being
sprinkled on several times. We only made a couple of stops on our ride north to
Caveman Bar-BQ as we had reservations at 1:00 p.m.
After having to stop and ask for directions and passing the turnoff, we found
ourselves heading down the very dusty dirt road that leads to the restaurant.
Arriving tired, dusty and HUNGRY we were picked up by a van that shuttled
us from the parking lot to the cave where the restaurant is located. We rode
a small elevator up to the cave where our table was waiting. We all thought the
food was very good and enjoyed each others company along with the cool air
inside the cave as we ate. We were shuttled back to our bikes after eating and
slowly got ready for the long ride back.
It wasn't long after we headed back that we found ourselves riding through the
middle of nasty looking storm clouds, they were on both sides of us with a thin
strip of fairly clear sky in front of us. The road would take a turn and we'd be
headed right into the storm and the next turn we were racing towards clear skies.
We were extremely lucky to be just ahead of the storm and just behind it in a
few places. It was a miracle that we were only briefly rained on a few times.
After 400 miles round trip, we arrived back in Harrison just as it was getting
dark. We stopped one last time to exchange our shades for clear glasses and
say good ride and goodnight to each other before going our separate ways.
All in all we had a GREAT RIDE!!
We hope everyone in Star Chapter 298 will be able to go next time.
