July 19, 2008

On the morning of July 19, 2008 our Road Captain, Landus rode to Green Forest, Arkansas to meet with several gentlemen that rode to our area and wanted to join us for our breakfast ride to the Cliff House.

Otis Bishop-Murfreesboro, TN * Anthony Phillips-Tellahoma, TN
Carroll Marcum-Murfreesboro,TN * Bruce Caruthars-Shelby,TN
Rick Curtis-Atlanta, GA-Star Chapter 111

We also had a few local guests join us on our ride.

Kevin Murphy and Harry Cikanek both from Harrison, AR

As soon as Landus and our out of town guests joined us at the White Oak Station located at the junction of Highway 7 South and Highway 206 we headed south on Highway 7 to the Cliff House.

We stopped at the Scenic Point Gift Shop south of Jasper for a few minutes to enjoy the the Arkansas Grand Canyon. Everyone was hungry so we didn't stay long. At this point, we have 17 bikes and 23 riders.

We surprised our host and restaurant owner Mike McLaurin by having a few more riders than was earlier anticipated. Mike and everyone at the Cliff House were great and made all of us feel welcome.

The Cliff House is known for being built on the edge of the mountain overlooking the Arkansas Grand Canyon. You can enjoy the view while eating or step out on the balcony. The food is very good too!

After leaving the Cliff House several folks headed in a different direction and the rest of us headed out for a ride known as The Moonshine Run. Our route took us from Highway 7 to Highway 374 and on to Highway 23 riding Mt. Judea and up the switchbacks on our way back to Highway 7. Reaching Highway 7 and heading north, we turn onto Highway 16 making a brief stop at the side of the road before taking Highway 21 to Boxley.

We pulled over at Boxley along the Upper Buffalo Wilderness Area. The remains of an old farmhouse are located in this lush valley.  We even made a couple of new friends that were just lying around when we got there.

After leaving Boxley turned onto Highway 43 heading east and made another stop at the Ponca Store where we said our good-byes before heading back to Harrison.

It was a great breakfast and ride!  Thanks to everyone that joined in.
