Four brave souls ventured out to test the elements early Sunday morning. It was a bit cool and the roads were wet as Alex, Vicki, Landus and Denise met at the White Oak Station located at the junction of Highway 7 South and Highway 206.

Four brave souls ventured out to test the elements early Sunday morning. It was a bit cool and the roads were wet as Alex, Vicki, Landus and Denise met at the White Oak Station located at the junction of Highway 7 South and Highway 206.
It had rained earlier but fortunately the rain had stopped. The roads were starting to dry although it was still very cloudy by the time we left the station and headed south on Highway 7 towards Jasper with our destination being the Cliff House Inn, Restaurant & Gift shop where we planned on having breakfast.
Our ride slowed down drastically when we got behind two 18 wheelers just after we crossed the bridge over the Buffalo River at Ponca. When we reached Jasper we could see the top of the mountain towards the Cliff House was shrouded in low hanging clouds and not wanting to ride in the fog, we decided to stop in Jasper and have breakfast at the Ozark Cafe.
After a nice breakfast and chatting a little business for Star Days we took Highway 74 over Mt. Sherman on our way to Ponca. At Ponca we didn’t want to head straight home so we took a left on Highway 43 and rode to Boxley looking for Elk along the Buffalo River.
We stopped at the Upper Buffalo Wilderness Area in Boxley and walked down the old dirt road that lead past the remains of an old homestead along with spring that was flowing out of the mountainside.
As we were getting ready to leave the Upper Buffalo Wilderness Area, a couple pulled up in a truck. They told that Elk had been hanging around the homestead but were spooked off by the storms in the area the night before.
We headed back to Ponca and then over the mountain on Highway 43 towards Harrison. Our last stop was at the lookout, south of Harrison where we said our good-byes.
