Kimberling City Missouri

Friday night August 27th

We all met at the Cove Resort in Kimberling City, MO. Our very gracious hosts Beth and Ted
sponsored our Star Chapter 298 by donating a 3 bedroom suite for us to use Friday and Saturday night.

We all went to The Bearded Clam (also owned by Beth and Ted) for drinks, and to enjoy the band
that was playing that night. After an evening at the Bearded Clam we went to our room where the guys
played a few hands of poker before heading on to bed, knowing we had to get up early for our Poker Run

Saturday, August 28th

We were all up early and ready for breakfast before going to the location where our poker run was
was to start from. The skies didn't look very promising but we were hopeful for a great turnout.

During our breakfast the rain started falling. It kept on raining and raining and raining throughout
the morning. The parade for the rally was washed out. The marching band was able crowd under an
awning at the location of the rally and actually play for the few brave hearts that were there.

The rain would slack off from time to time only to blow up again. After hours of waiting for the rain
to stop and only a handful of bikes showing up for the poker run, we decided to call it a day. Even though
we had very little time to advertise, we voted to give the poker run a try on Sunday and called it a day
at around 1:00 pm and headed back to the room for lunch. Thanks to Patty and Debbie going to the store
when they got there Friday afternoon we had the fixings for sandwiches and a nice lunch together.

The rain finally let up for a little bit that afternoon, allowing the Bacardi Girls wash a few bikes
sponsored by The Bearded Clam. With everyone riding in the rain there were alot of dirty bikes.

Later that evening we all decided to ride back up to the location of the rally for the car and bike show.
Being there with only a handful of other participants we all entered the bike show hoping our donations
would help. None of our bikes won a prize but it was fun being there. After dinner, we all made it back
to the room to dry out, relax and enjoy each others company.

Sunday, August 29th

Getting up again early Sunday morning we all get around to give the poker run another try.
Unlike Saturday, today is BEAUTIFUL! We're all hopeful that we will have a few riders show up
for the poker run that we all worked so hard to put together.

To our surprise we had a great turn out with the little advertising that we were able to do the following
day. Our members working the first stop headed out to get set up before the first riders were signed up.
After the first riders were on their way everyone at the other stops headed out to be set up and ready for
the riders to arrive, while the members at the beginning of the poker run worked to get all the
riders off and to prepare for them to return at the end of the ride.

The riders rode to each of the stops along the route we had previously set up. Drawing a card for their
poker hand and (being a mystery poker run) they received a new portion of the map so they would know where the
next stop would be. After all the riders had made it to the last stop and drawn their last card, the riders
with high and low hands were determined which also determined our two winners. The grand prize awarded to
the holder of the high hand was a georgous jacked embroidered with the poker run logo and our own
Star Chapter 298's logo along with the pick of one prize off the tables that contained all the prizes donated
by our sponsors. After the grand prize was handed out the low hand holder received pick of their choice of
the remaining prizes for second place.

Once first and second place prizes were awarded everyone was asked to pull out the numbered ticket they
received when they signed up. As the numbers were drawn the ticket holder was asked to come up and pick a
prize off the tables until all the tickets were drawn. The remaining prizes we turned over to be auctioned
off during the auction, hoping to come up with further contributions.

Tired after a long weekend that started out very gloomy and ended up being beautiful and a big success; we
cleaned up our tents, tables, chairs and trash and headed to The Bearded Clam to thank Beth and Ted once more
for their hospitality and congratulate Ted for riding in our poker run (even though he was a bit nervous).
Then we all headed home to relax and recooperate.

Check out the pictures that were taken throughout our stay.
