We met at the Travel Information Center on Highway 65, north of Harrison. Landus' mom Shirley joined us for our ride. It was a little chilly starting out but promised to be a beautiful day.
After visiting for a bit we mounted up and headed on our way on Highway 65 going north and then turning left onto Highway 412 West.
Our first stop was the Kings River Country Store at Marble where a few of us topped off our tanks and grabbed something cool to drink. Marble is a nice place to stop between located about halfway between Harrison and Fayetteville/Springdale. You can always find snacks, drinks and clean bathrooms here. They also serve hot meals if you care to sit down and relax for a bit.
Turning off of Highway 412 onto Highway 303 we made our way to the
War Eagle Mill. The mill is located on the War Eagle River and is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! The water flows over a small drop and under the old one lane bridge. Be careful if you ride across the bridge, you'll want to make sure you either stay on the raised wooden planks or between them.
Inside the mill you'll find the old grist mill in operation on the first floor. The second floor contains crafts and gifts with The Bean Palace Restaurant on the third floor where they serve breakfast, lunch and Ice Cream. The restaurant is open daily from the first weekend in March to January 1st - 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
It's hard to believe that just a few weeks earlier the whole area was underwater. The War Eagle River overflowed it's banks and there was about three feet of water "inside" the first floor of the mill. If you look close you can still see debris from the high water in some of the trees and along the bottom of the bridge.
After leaving the Mill we rode along Highway 12 to Highway 23 and into Eureka Springs where we stopped at Cafe Santa Fe. Our group split up in Eureka Springs with half staying for dinner and the rest riding back to Harrison along Highway 62 East.
Arriving back at the Tourist Information Center in Harrison we reflected on our ride for a few minutes then we each headed home. The rest of our group had a nice dinner in Eureka Springs and headed back too.
War Eagle Mill and Eureka Springs.... A MUST if you're riding in the area.
